International Democracy Day

Empowering young Seychellois to participate responsibly in politics is key to ensure continuity and enhancement of democracy in Seychelles.

The theme for the 2024 International Democracy Day, which is celebrated on 15th September, is “Empowering the Next Generation”.
In that respect the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Mr. Danny Lucas, wishes to emphasize the importance of youth involvement in the advancement of democracy.
The participation of youth in politics and therefore elections, is a crucial step towards the promotion of civic engagement, with the aimed focus on aspiring and promoting leadership qualities.
The Commission wishes to reiterate its engagement in its endeavour, to have a high participation of youth in elections and electoral activities throughout the electoral cycle.
Empowering the next generation of Seychellois is the only way to guarantee the quality of democratic governance and therefore sustainable practices for the Seychelles.
We therefore call upon the youth to come forward and take the challenge to participate whilst enjoying their constitutional rights and responsibilities as young voters and leaders.
